ALARM:3 Puzzle - only happens when using LightBurn

LightBurn generating an ERROR:3

I am receiving an ERROR:3 error using a Longer Ray5 10W whenever the laser passes near the center area of its work surface.

This only happens when using LightBurn. It does not happen when using other apps like LaserBurn, LaserGRBL, etc.

This also only happens when the laser is moving diagonally, and only when moving north.

X:0, Y:0 to X:400, Y:400 - ERROR:3 occurs as it passes near the center of the work area.

X:400, Y:0 to X:0, Y:400 - ERROR:3 occurs near the center of the work area.

X:0, Y:400 to X:400, Y:0 - no error

X:400, Y:400 to X:0, Y:0 - no error

X:200, Y:0 to X:200, Y:400, no error

X:200, Y:400 to X:200, Y:0 - no error

Looking at the console, every time this error tales place, I see a coordinate entry (𝐱:πŸπŸ—πŸ’,𝐳:-πŸ•πŸ“) that doesn’t make sense (see below). What makes this coordinate odd is the Ray5 does not have an x: axis, much less a negative one.

By the way, this is a repeatable error. I can make it happen just by having the laser pass through the center of the work area at a diagonal while moving north.

I can work around the error if I disable motion sensing ($39=0). At first I assumed it was a mechanical/hardware, or maybe firmware issue. But since it only happens when using Lightburn, I’m not sure, so I thought I’d ask about this here.

Since we can’t see what you’re seeing on screen; In the Lightburn Move Panel go to X0, Y0

then in the laser panel click show last position. With the laser panel open take a screenshot of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded. (no phone pics, please)

If you are asking to perform these steps when the ALRM:13 occurs, that isn’t possible because the laser goes into error mode and becomes unresponsive. A hard reboot of the laser is required.

Hi, Fred. This sounds an awful lot like the issue I’m having with my Ray5 10W laser. Mine seems to mostly trigger when I’m moving southwest, and never on a single axis, always diagonally. Mine also fails in the middle of the work area, and I get odd locations at the time of the error. (Two are β€œx:277,z:-109” and β€œx:-56,z:232”. I don’t have anything that uses the Z axis.)

I just verified that this does NOT happen with software other than Lightburn. In fact, even within LB, I can give the laser any number of movement commands, like β€œG90 X400 y400” followed by β€œg90 x0 y0”, and it will go back and forth with no problem. Once I use the LB Move panel to move the laser, though, it will give the error.

One experiment I tried was to use LB to move to 400,400, then give the G90 code to move to 0,0, and it errored on its way back.
