I’ve been using my new Genmitsu Kiosk for the last week and a half and all has worked flawlessly - flat surfaces, rotary, no issues…
Today i tried to use it and it wouldn’t respond…
The Laser Panel shows Ready, but the Console Panel shows “Waiting for Connection”
When i unplug the usb cable, the Last Panel shows Diconnected (as i would expect) and then plugging it back in shows Ready… This happens when i power off/power on as well..
There is only 1 COM port showing…
I used Universal G-Code Sender and it recognizes the unit and even moves the last head, homes it, recognizes the Rotary (z-axis) on the same COM port so i know it’s not tyke cable or USB hub…
Closed USGS and reopened Lightburn and still no joy…
It looks like you don’t have a COM port selected in LightBurn. Push the pull-down button showing “(Choose)” situated between “Devices” button and your device name, then explicity select the COM port.
While no other applications, including UGCS, that could potentially use that COM port are running, you started LightBurn with it showing that same COM port
Console shows Waiting for Connection
Can you confirm that all of these statements are true at the same time?
Also, I’m reviewing your screenshots again and realizing you are on a Mac which is confusing me with regard to COM ports which is not a Mac convention.
Questions:
Have you had any OS updates since the last time that LightBurn worked?
What sort of Mac are you running?
Try right-clicking the “Devices” button which should force a reconnect. Does that change anything?
Can you open the port pull-down and take a screenshot?
The serial port shown in your last screenshot shows “cu.usbserial-14220”.
The serial port shown in your other LightBurn screenshots as the USGS is “cu.usbserial-1420”. Notice the small difference in the numbers. I’m scratching my head on this. Had you changed the USB port on your computer when this occurred?
Additional questions:
Are you absolutely certain that UGCS is not holding the port open? Try this workflow: turn off laser and close all applications; turn on the laser; open LightBurn making sure the port is selected. What are the results?
With no applications running open a Mac terminal, then run this command. Please return the full results: lsof | grep usbserial
Repeat the command after opening LightBurn. What are the results then?
Can you go to Edit->Device Settings and take a full screenshot of that screen?
Not sure why the last one says 14220 - i didn’t change anything other than reopen lightburn… but still doesn’t explain why the other lightburn pics show 1420 like USGS does but still shows waiting for Connection…
I opened up lightburn, took the screenshots that showed 1420 yet still waiting for Connection… tried to move the laser, no joy… closed lightburn and open UGCS and connected via 1420 and moved the laser… closed and reopened lightburn and took the last screen shot. So I’m perplexed. Especially since 2 days ago it was all plug and play
I downloaded CutLabX and tried it and it recognized the Kiosk with no issues so that got me thinking of why not Lughtburn… Then I remembered that Genmitsu actually provided a file for Lightburn to setup the Kiosk…
I imported the file and it recognized it, homed the laser and responds again! I guess something perhaps got corrupted? But I’m back in business! Hopefully this will help someone else in the future..
The Terminal command demonstrates that LightBurn indeed had control of the port. However, I think the difference is in the Baud Rate. Somehow in LightBurn you have a Baud settings of 921,600 whereas in UGCS you have 115,200. I suspect if you had changed that in LightBurn to 115,200 that you would have been able to connect.
Thank you betainlb! I know, very weird but I’m glad it is finally up and running again. This little machine is a work horse despite the small engraving area (100mmx100mm). For me it’s especially helpful because you call lift it when using the rotary without the need for risers and the chuck rotary unit actually tilts for those pesky tapered pint glasses - so much easier than my xTool M1 or Ortur LM2… so I’m super excited I got it to work again…
Thank you again for all the suggestions and I’m glad it was just a simple as importing the provided LB configuration file!
