I’m a new user, posted a couple of questions, and have encountered a problem responding to a query for more information. All “reply” tags are non-functional to me, in my post as well as a response to one of them.
I’m running Windows 10 in a self-built machine, where I do not see any problems with FireFox. (I have been using it for many years, on the current as well as previous computers).
I’m writing this post on my IPad, also in FireFox, and I see the reply tags are functional. In fact, I moved to the IPad for this post because the LightBurn Forum’s New Post tag was broken on the Windows machine when I tried it there first. (However, I did successfully post a different question earlier today, from FireFox on the Windows machine.)
So it’s not FifeFox per se, but either FireFox on Windows 10 or, specifically, my Windows 10 machine.
(FireFox automatically installs new updates whenever started, so it’s not a question of upgrading to a newer version; FireFox manages that, on both the Windows machine and the IPad. Additionally, I do stay current withMicrosoft updates, including one installed a few days ago.)
Works for me, as the saying goes, with Ublock Origin / Privacy Badger / tracking protection cranked to the max and a Pi-hole knocking out plenty of other stuff.
While I haven’t had any trouble with this site, I have no idea why various other sites either do or do not work with either Firefox or Chrome, regardless of what I do or do not enable or disable. It seems completely random, sometimes from day to day. Admittedly, this is on Manjaro Linux, so it’s different, but …
Which probably isn’t much help, but at least now you know there’s another Firefox user out here.
I use Chrome on a Mac and I sometimes have the issues you’re describing. I’ve found it to happen after I use Google Translate inline with the browser. I will click on the reply button and nothing will happen until I click the back button. Then the reply editor will pop up and I can type the reply. It is still attached to the correct post even though I’m no longer in that post.
Sometimes if I go back into the original post with the reply box open, when I click reply to post it, the saving banner hangs on the bottom of the screen, but when I back out and return the reply is posted. I have learned to live with it as it’s clearly related to the translate function in my situation.
Icons are present when I view a response to my post, medium grey, turn darker when I click on them, but then…nothing. No text-entry panel, no way to respond.

This current response to your question is, as earlier noted, from my IPad, where the tags work correctly.
I’d suggest trying in Private window mode with all extensions disabled to see if the behavior changes.
I’ve used the forum with multiple FF based browsers and none have had an issue. I’ve gotten the Chrome in-place translation issue that @thelmuth mentioned above on Chrome-based browsers which sounds similar to what you’re describing but haven’t seen anything comparable on FF although I may not have exercised that capability as much.
