Anyone have experience with the new Omteth k40+

Just wondering if the new version of the Omtech k40+ is worth it. I have a red and black Omtech 60w currently. Just looking if the details will be any better or if what I have will be roughly the same.

It will be a downgrade move back to a grbl controller? The K40+ has a grbl controller, otherwise it’s still a K40. Most of these have the size to hold a 30W tube, not 40W…

Most people leave the K40 and upgrade to something like your OMTech 60W.

Yours is likely not 60W either… a 60W tube needs to be about 1200mm in length… is yours that long? My OMTech China Blue 50W was only slightly over 40W. Got a watt meter?

That’s what I was thinking. I’ve done a bunch of pictures on the larger machine. I was just wondering if the detail was a bit sharper with the smaller one.

Looks like I’ll pass on the deal.

Generally speaking, if you’re lasing it, the material usually dictates what resolution is available.

If you want higher resolution you need to work on how small of a dot you can make with your machine. This is primary indicator of resolution…

A 1 inch tool bit (or laser beam) can’t expect resolution better than 1 dpi/lpi…

Most co2 the spot size is around 0.20mm with a standard lens… best resolution you can get is an interval of 0.20mm or 128 dpi/lpi. Anything smaller the same area will be covered in subsequent passes…

The only way I know of to reduce the spot size, is a shorter length lens or a beam expander before the lens…

Good luck
