Looking to eventually upgrade to an Omtech 60W CO2. Missed the seasonal (Christmas/Black Friday sales) because of being so busy. Wondering if it’s worth waiting and taking a chance or just take advantage of the 5% off right now. Thanks for any help!
We bought from OMTECH on eBay and made them an offer for the same amount they had on previous sales went back and fourth and saved several hundred $ over their current price.
Good Luck
They still offer the same warranty etc?
Yes absolutely , it’s the same company. They also sell auto parts on eBay. Did my research thoroughly.
They also include free shipping in their cost. 2 year warranty on machine and 6 months in the CO2 tube. That’s a big deal. Because you are dealing with them through eBay you have multiple safe check points. Credit Card protection, PayPal protection, eBay Protection until you unbox and run.
If you buy directly without eBay your credit card company is your only safety net.
We bought our MOPA fiber laser this way and saved a good amount vs. China direct and having to deal with shipping costs, tariffs, and all the PITA headaches that come Along with importing.
You should read through this thread to discover what that means in practice:
If you’re uncomfortable rooting around inside the laser to troubleshoot any problems, do not expect them to be of much assistance.
On the other paw, the HV supply in my OMTech failed just inside the six month warranty and, after a bit of back-n-forth, a new one arrived quickly enough.
@ednisley To be fair to the manufacturer who fully supports Lighburn they offer a 2 year warranty on the entire system minus the CO2 tube . The CO2 tube is covered for 6 months which is standard. The grinding you referenced is covered under the 2 year warranty on the machine not 6 months on the tube.
Definitely not worried about getting my hands dirty, just if something catastrophic happens after a little while at no fault of my own, I don’t want to be the one flipping the bill for it.
Point was, after some truly ineffectual debugging, they’re sending her a bare Y axis motor and expecting her to install it correctly. I can do that, you can do that, but a randomly selected customer won’t have, oh, metric hex keys.
I have a 10¢ bet with myself that it ain’t the motor.
The warranty is useful, but it’s on the customer to make the machine work.
I understand your point nevertheless the company helped their customer. In a perfect world they would have done a video call and do a better diagnosis of the problem.
Customer service is a BIG DEAL. Even Fortune 500 companies with huge budgets can’t get that aspect right. Southwest Airlines currently in the news is a great example of this point.
There are high end Laser manufacturers that are located in the US like Epilog and Trotec that do offer the level of service that you describe however and that is a BIG HOWEVER you have to pay for it.
Most of the people want a hobby or small business laser as an entry and Chinese lasers have become very attractive as a result of the awesome Software that is Lightburn.
I know that my feelings about the situation are shared by many on this forum and beyond.
