does anybody know anything on this laser. I feel now I’ve wasted $700.00
What do you want to know?
Most likely, it has a GRBL controller, so following the Getting Started
guide will get it running:
Beyond that, a search for mecpow
will turn up previous discussions, perhaps with useful information:
It is only wasted if you give up on it. Keep at it until everyone says “I have no idea”. Then send it back.
well, did I waste $700.00 on a laser. I mean I bought this machine to make money, and know I’m having so many doubts. What kinds of things can these diode lasers do. it’s just so beginner
Plenty of opportunities for that, with these folks showing off their projects:
I’m bemused at what (apparently) sells:
Marketing presents a bottleneck, though …
Burn organic materials, mark stainless, and surface fracture etch glass and rocks. There are a LOT of things that fall into these categories. Google “diode laser videos” and you will be overwhelmed with the results.
The hard part is deciding what YOU want to do with the laser. Besides what is on my web page, I make small wooden plaques with Amateur Radio call signs for award ceremonies. And there is more, like making cutouts or etching cutting boards for local artists. This should be more than enough to get you started.
And you are just getting started. I started 2 years ago and still feel like I am a newbie.
Kenray, what is your laser experience?
What are you wanting to do to make money?
What is the power of you MECPOW X4?
I personally started my laser experience with a 4.2 wat laser. Basically is an engraver. It cut but it took forever, many passes.
I now have a MEECPOW X3 10 wat laser. I just got it for Xmas and am still testing to get my brain dialed in to what this machine can do.
This will cut in one pass, so I am very happy.
Let’s see what can it do?
Engraving; cutting boards, frames, pencils & pens, Signs, Wall art, rubber stamps and the like.
Cutting: Mandala art (multi layered wall art), Earrings, Key chains, Holders of varying uses.
There is a plethera of things to make.
Here are a couple of sites to give you ideas,
You may want to start with test cards for engraving, and cutting, as well as a kerf test card to show your kerf offset for your beam.
Have fun!
Disclaimer: I am no expert but feel free to ask questions, I’ll do my best to answer.

hey kemray. i bought the same laser. did a lot of projects. whats wrong with yours?
have not even taken it out of the box, but I hope nothing
do you find this machine, abilities to be up to par for a laser business
Many users have reported that it takes some time to dial in the settings for optimal performance. If you’re having specific issues, it might help to check out forums or community groups for tips from other users.
Its an entry level, chinese made, hobby diode laser. It would depend on how much and what type of buisness you are planning. A few projects per week with anything other than acrylic and engraving metal (it can mark metal): it will be fine. The machine is not going to do everything and wont hold up to making large batches, but its a good machine to learn about how to use a laser. If you enjoy it, you will need to figure out what and how much you want to do.
