I am trying to create text in a spiral shape. I can use “apply path to text” when using a shape that I create in Lightburn, but since I need to import the spiral design, I’m not able to do it. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?
This is exactly what I’m trying to do. When I import the spiral and trace the image (option T), then select the spiral and my text, there is no option to apply path to text. If I don’t trace the image, I can see “apply path to text” but it isn’t available to select. Any suggestions?
If you zoom closely into your traced image you’ll find that rather than being a simple spiral vector it will be either a series of vectors or one single closed shape around the original ‘pencil line’. Fit path to text might have difficulty with this depending on exactly how your trace came out. Ideally you want to import a vector spiral.
I actually created a spiral generator a little while ago to answer a requirement by another LB forum user. I’ll try to find the thread so I can post a link if you’re interested.
EDIT:
Here’s a link to the thread I mentioned.
If we can see the file we can pinpoint the problem.

Yes, this makes sense and I think you are right. Just not sure how to get a simple vector spiral. It is something I will reuse with different wording many times, so I don’t mind purchasing if necessary. Really only need a short spiral (three total spirals in) and it will be used for a 1.25" design on a fiber laser.
Yes, as you can see, your spiral consists of an outline around your original.
I now see that you’re on Mac so unfortunately my spiral generator app won’t work.
Leave it with me for a few minutes and I’ll post back a file…
Here’s your original with added spiral. Hope this helps but if you need anything else just shout.

EDIT: I’ve just updated the file as I didn’t notice that the spiral needed ungrouping. I’ve also fitted the text to the path to make sure it works.
Of course, you could also use the node editor to break your curve and delete the parts you don’t need.
Thank-you so much! This is exactly what I’ve been attempting for weeks. I greatly appreciate you help and it worked perfectly!
You’re welcome, I’m pleased we found a solution for you. If you could mark one of my replies as the solution it can help others in the future.
