Are there any plans to accommodate lightfield (plenoptic) files?

We’re interested in 2.5D carving using a ThunderLaser or similar machine. The profiles are “natural” materials - wood, brick, stone, etc. As such, we’ll begin with high resolution photos of the materials in question, create 3D surfaces in Blender, export those as STL files, then convert the STLs to PNG for carving. The 2D photos are a good starting point, but not great due to camera position and lighting constraints. A plenoptic photo file might allow us to skip the Blender processing and jump directly to a PNG with coded depth. Please share your thoughts. Thanks

AFAICT, Lytro was pretty much the sole source for plenoptic cameras and went toes-up a while ago, where are you getting those pix?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Moving heaven & earth to get better images will have a more immediate payoff, as I’ve wasted entirely too much time turning crappy pix into something useful.

I saw some of these, before COVID, on ebay for around $100 US…

Don’t know what kind/how they generate data…
