Title: Atomstack X40 Max – Works from TF card but not via USB or WiFi

Hello everyone,
I am from France and I don’t speak English very well, so I am using a translator to write this message. I apologize if there are any mistakes or awkward wording. Thank you very much for your understanding and for any help you can provide.
I have an Atomstack X40 Max and I’m trying to connect it to LightBurn.

Here is my situation:

  • The machine powers on normally.
  • Homing works correctly from the machine’s touchscreen.
  • I replaced a faulty limit switch, and now homing is perfect.
  • The machine engraves and cuts perfectly when I use the TF (microSD) card.
  • The built-in WiFi starts correctly and I can connect my PC to it.
  • I can successfully ping the machine’s IP address.
  • However, LightBurn cannot communicate with the machine, either through WiFi or USB.
  • Windows does not recognize the USB connection correctly (I have already tried several USB cables and two different computers).
  • According to the previous owner, the USB connection has never worked since he bought the machine.

Could this be:

  • a firmware issue?
  • a controller board configuration issue?
  • a defective USB interface?
  • or something specific to the X40 Max?

Has anyone experienced the same problem or found a solution?

Hi @dan80

With the machine powered on, open Windows Device Manager and watch Ports (COM & LPT) and Other devices while reconnecting the USB cable. If no COM port or unknown device appears, the USB interface/controller board may be faulty.

Being able to ping the Wi-Fi address only confirms the network connection is responding, not that LightBurn can communicate with the controller. At this point, I’d contact Atomstack for the correct driver/firmware or replacement-board advice.

You will need to have a USB driver installed before. Did you do that? It’s the CH340 driver usually.

When you can ping the machine, try opening the IP in the browser, you should see the web interface of the firmware. Does that work?

For WiFi connections via LB, you typically need to change the default port. LB defaults to 21 (I think), but you have to change it to 80, 8080, 22 or similar (depends on the firmware). Try them one after another :slight_smile:
