Atomstak R1 pro with Omtech K40+

Good day all I have yet another headache regarding the title of my post.
I received the R1 pro as a gift and have been eager to get it up and running which it is, kind of lol.

I seem to be having bother getting the mm per rotation dialed in on both the check rotary and the roller rotary. I have watched many videos and read many post but I can’t seem to get my head round this.

I have tried running a cylinder and burned a 100mm rectangle on the cylinder till I get it to burn exactly 100mm. I have achieved this in both the check and the roller but when I actually got to burn an image the size either comes out to big or to small.

From what I’ve read once I set the mm per rotation I should never need to touch this again.

Can anyone explain a setup procedure for a novice laser engraver as I would really like to get this working spot on. It’s what I would really like to input time on within my machine.

You have it working, so it is just a settings issue. Keep in mind the chuck and roller setup have to be viewed a bit differently, so you will be adjusting stuff a little differently.

I have a couple of links that might help…

When you get a new list of questions, we will be here to help.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

I have had a read through this and seem to have got the chuck rotary dialled in, but im having issues with the roller rotary.

I have done every test i can think of on different circumference to try and get this roller setup. I was at a point where i could burn a rectangle the exact circumference around diffrent cylinder sizes, i could mark 100mm on tape and the red dot will follow it exactly on the diffrent cylinders so i thought happy days.

I then went to burn a graphic, and it was the totally wrong size . I then did a bit more research, and I read about using a 20mm square and burn in line, then burn it in fill, intrestinly the 20mm square was acurate but when i ran the 20mm in fill, the fill came out twice as wide along the y axis, same image only switched from line to fill. The issue was that they didn’t explain why this was happening.

I can not help you either. Perfect square says calibration (roller diameter) must be okay. Slipping on the rollers means the image would be too small, never too big.

I am reaching out to a couple of users (@thelmuth , @misken ) that might be able to make sense of this.

That is correct, but the settings are very likely different from the chuck to the roller. Each one will have it’s own setting for use.

Since you seem to have the chuck working, let’s focus on the roller. The settings need to accurately represent the roller diameter and the steps will be whatever is required for the roller to make one complete revolution when you press the test button. Until this is correct, nothing else will be.

I cannot explain this issue.

Post a screenshot of your rotary settings dialog and post a photo of your rotary setup on the laser.

Hi folks, thanks for the replies.

I have managed to figure out what the issue was although I don’t know how or why this was changed.
It seemed my y axis speed was wrong, I can’t remember changing this at all and it also came with a warning box when I did try to access this setting menu which would have made me question changing anything.

I haven’t had a chance to try the roller or chuck again so I can’t say I’m totally dialed in but I sincerely appreciate the help and feedback and I will keep you updated on my progress with the rotary setup.
