Aufero laser 2 won't fire software or hardware?

hello, Brand new here I am sure there are thousands of posts like this one but I cant seem to find any answers from googling. Bought an aufero laser 2 for black Friday with the LU2-4-LF laser. got it all put together and am trying to get it working so I can do my test and learn this thing. I got the machine functioning as far as movement goes (keep forgetting that home button does not mean return to origin…) but cant seem to get tit to fire. I have enabled the test fire button and when I push it the fan comes on but no laser. It will frame a job but still no laser. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing or something? Any help is appreciated!!!

What is the power level that you have it set to when you do this? Try increasing power gradually. Does the laser light then appear?

If not, can you go to Device Settings and check the value of S Value Max? Make sure it’s set to 1000. If not, change it to 1000.

If that doesn’t work, can you make a simple design and then Save Gcode in Laser window and make sure to use a .txt extension. Then upload file here.

I found a thread about the s value and hoped that was it but it was already set to 1000.

here is a txt file hopefully this has what you need.

When I hit test fire the fan comes on and the blue led up top comes on. thinking maybe I just got a bad unit?

Your device is configured to the wrong device type.

  1. Push Devices button Laser window.
  2. Click the name of your laser, then Edit
  3. Change device type to “GRBL”. Make sure it’s not GRBL-M3 or GRBL-LPC as it is in your case
  4. Click next until you’re done assuming all other settings are correct.

Retest.

huh, that is strange I know I picked GRBL the first time through… Either way that didnt change anything. could testing on that fry something? any other ideas?? I know you are just kind of shooting in the dark here but I do appreciate it.

Can you regenerate gcode and upload again?

New attempt!

Yeah, g-code looks fine.

I’d suggest rechecking cables to make sure they’re well seated and that there’s no obvious damage.

Do you have access to a voltage meter? You could test voltage out from the controller to confirm controller output.

Yes I do, I will check that you don’t happen to know which ones are which do you? Guessing red is power, black is ground, and white is signal?

Also, quick question since you seem to know whats what. When I test fire should the blue led on top stay on? seems like when I do frame with the laser the led turns on and then when the frame is done it fades out. When I test fire it is staying on, that should be the case so I can adjust focal width correct? just trying to make sure I understand the workings of what I see before I start fiddling too much.

I don’t have that controller to confirm but that’s likely correct, or at least red is almost certainly power. Then you could sort out ground and signal. Assume 100% power will be represented by either 5V or 3.3V with 0% at 0V and other percentages linearly proportional.

I believe that’s correct but don’t have that laser module to confirm. But in any case there should be a light indicating laser on.

Fire will stay on until you turn it off. Some lasers also timeout after a fixed amount of time but I don’t believe Orturs do. Not sure what you mean by focal width but you can take that opportunity to focus or do other validations.

But I think your diagnosis may be correct and you have a bum module. Reach out to Ortur support. Gil will likely connect with you and is also on this forum as @OrturTech.

opened a ticket. thanks.

I also checked the power supply and the power going in to the laser module. Supply is putting out 26.9v same as the supply wires for the laser. didn’t check anything on the board as I don’t know what i am looking for on there. thanks for trying to help me though guys.

Also after playing around with the movement buttons sometimes I have an option for continuous movement and others I don’t so i can only move in steps. Any idea what in lightburn triggers continuous vs not?

That button is known to be sometimes intermittent in appearance. Can’t recall a definitive way to make sure it’s there but check if $j option is enabled in Device Settijgs.
