If this feature is already available, apologies, I didn’t see it.
I engrave a lot of cutlery, knife fork and spoon, all with the same name on each piece, usually they are one offs, so not doing a lot at a time when variable text would come into play. What would be great If I typed some text into a text box, that text would be repeated where ever I require it in places I fixed on the screen.
I appreciate the variable text feature and have used it when I have an order for multiple sets of cutlery, all with different names, but it really isn’t suitable when I’m doing a one-off.
The only problem with that is that I have to create a file, upload it into Lightburn, etc, that works when I’m doing lots of different names on the three pieces of cutlery, but for a one-off order (which I get lots of) it would take longer to do all that than type three names on the screen.
Using a CSV file this can work. Make your jig with the pieces you are engraving. yes I understand you might not always engrave a “set” fork/knive/spoon, but that’s ok. It will take the same amount of time to engrave the three every time.. Place your item or items and edit the CSV file. Add one name, and duplicate that line 2-3 times. Have Cut Selection on, Bake the text and then delete the ones you are not engraving or turn them to a tool layer.
Thanks for the reply, but I already know how to use variable text, not long ago I did a run of just under five hundred sets of cutlery and the customer was able to put all the names on a spreadsheet, which made it so much easier for me. Doing what you suggest would no doubt take longer to do than delete the three names on the screen from the last saved file and type new ones. I know what I’m proposing will not save me much time having to type out one name rather than three, but some users might need to type out dozens.
