Back and forth on cutting

Hi everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m writing this message because I’m experiencing a problem with lightburn that I can’t seem to solve.

I have to contour a part on my Omtech max 750 CO2 laser and when previewing in LB I realize that my laser is contouring correctly but going back and forth.

I checked that there were no duplicate lines and that the shape was properly closed using the ALT J command, but nothing helped.

Here’s a video to make things clearer : video

Do you have any idea where this might be coming from?

Thank you,

Bobi

Post your lightburn save file here with the UPLOAD file command

Then we can look at what your settings are.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your answer.

here is the file :

copie LB.lbrn2 (114,7 Ko)

Your shape (looks like half a scissors) is made up of a lot of smaller pieces. I changed them to different colors to make it easier to see.

Join the seperate pieces into a single part and the back and forth movement will be gone.

Thank you Jim.

Your comments raise several questions:

  • When I click on the curve under LB I don’t see all these little segments, they appear when I separate them. Then why doesn’t the ALT J command work?
  • How do you join them?

Thanks for your help

Part of the shape is duplicated, you have to remove the duplicate for it to behave correctly.

Hi David,

thank you for your answer.

how do you manage to select and move duplicates line? when I try, I don’t get the right line

This is what I did to delete all the duplicates, it is a bit long winded but it works.

  1. Select object
  2. Ungroup
  3. Select object - break apart Alt+b
  4. Delete duplicates Alt+d
  5. Auto join shape Alt+j

For this shape I found I had to repeat steps 3-5 again to get rid of a remaining duplicate
