Badly formed circles and letters

Hi, laser user group.
I am very new to laser engraving, so you may have to overlook some school boy errors. I have had the machine a “Lunyeetools S1 3040” for about a month now.

1./ Problems with the build:
a/. Confusing instructions and pictures in the documentation.
One picture shows the Laser connected incorrectly!
b/. After some time attempting to load a driver, and being given various and conflicting advice, via customer services (very politely)!
Later It was found that a driver was not required for windows 10 and above.

c/. Minor but frustrating, some of the leads are too short for comfort.

2/. Problems with operating:
a/. The recommended GRBL offline control unit caused the Y axis to traverse in the wrong direction! Customer services advised me to swop the two central wires! Not easily done on ribbon cable and Insulation Displacement Connectors definitely not professionally recommended.
A request for the pinouts for the unit was unanswered.

b/. First attempts at engraving revealed the following…
circles are not truly round or complete, letters are not well formed when not filled.
All belts were checked for tension. As were all known causes of backlash.

I cannot see that any of the above as acceptable. Even at hobby level therefore. Any advice / answers would very much be appreciated. (See pictures).

It was later found that the laser lens was somewhat loose!

There is a setting in firmware to change the direction of travel $3. Here is a chart showing the different parameters.

You clearly have some play in your machine, whether a loose belt or loose set screw on one of the motor shafts. Go through the machine carefully and you should find the issue. This guide should give you help in finding the problem. It’s written for sculpfun but most gantry lasers are very similar.

Thanks a lot Tim. Although I thought I had checked all items. On your prompt I check more throughly and found two loose screws. Problem now cured thank to you. Many thanks.
Now onward and upward on the learning curve.

Forgot… where do I find firmware settings?

Type $$ in console and it will list current settings. Then if you want mo make a change enter $(number)=(x) Example your $3 setting reads $3=0 and you want to reverse the Y axis you would enter $3=2

That chart also applies to the Homing direction. If you change $3, it may also affect $23.

If you start messing with them, be prepared to feel like you are chasing your tail. Hopefully, Beginner’s Luck smiles upon you.
