Has anyone tried cutting bakelite.
Is it safe to cut. I need to replace an old radio part 3mm thick.

Yes and no, respectively. 
At least that’s what happened with a test cut in scrap from an old Silite cafeteria tray: not much cut, plenty of stink.
Knowing that we’ll be eating from Silite trays in the cafeteria after the Apocalypse, I should’a known better …
