I have a Jiccoda LE-1, until today it’s worked well, now when I try to cut out basswood the cut mark is way wider than it should be. Tried cleaning lens with no difference. Turned off engraver for several mins and had program closed, no change. Any ideas ?
Sounds like it’s out of focus. How is your laser focused? Is it variable or fixed focus?
If fixed focus make sure the focal length is correct for your laser. If variable focus review the focus until it’s tack sharp. Also note that even variable focus lenses will likely have an ideal focal length.
As far as I know it’s fixed but not positive. Searching for anything to do with a Jiccoda machine just gets you a few reviews (which are usually good)and where to buy. It has a thumb ring? you can screw off and the lens comes out as part of the ring. Thanks anyway, I’ll see what I can figure out, I have a starting point.
I found a video of the LE-1. Looks like it’s a fixed focus unit since you move the entire module to focus. Are you using the provided measuring tool to correct your focus?
If you’ve moved the thumb ring it’s possible that the focus is now out of calibration. You may want to run a focus ramp test to confirm.
Ok, apparently it was the height of the laser to the material. I set it with the gauge and it has the nice fine line again and I can speed it up and still get good cuts with it. Don’t know why it worked fine for a bit then mid cut it got out of whack but glad we got it figured out.
