Hello,
I am new to Lightburn, hope this is not a stupid question, however as it took me quite some time, hoping to get some insights, thank you!
After dialing in settings for engraving stainless steel on JCZFiber device, somehow suddenly the visual result for filled areas changed without obvious parameter changes. After long time reasoning what setting I changed, I noticed that I had switched off beginner mode. All obvious settings are the same (Speed, Power, Q, frequency, line interval, fill settings), except toggling the beginner switch, the visual result strongly changes (reproducible). In beginner mode I can see lines with some kind of aliasing pattern perpendicular to scan direction, in non beginner mode the fill is smooth, but power density seems higher (material color change).
I could not find out which parameter in expert mode would allow to switched back to beginner mode result. (e.g. it is not the “optimize cut path”).
Using 1.7.06 on Ubuntu.
Would be glad for insights
Edit: upper engraving: beginner mode OFF, lower: ON
Hey, yes exactly this is the toggle switch. The upper engraving (darker/more oxidised) is beginner OFF, lower with visible “dot pattern” is beginner ON. No other changes, just flip toggle, repeat job.
(I added a note to first post to clarify)
I’m going to make a couple assumptions.
You typed the text at two different times.
Even though you thought they were on the same layer, the lower one is actually on a different layer.
To test, (Save a copy) delete all but the layer of the first text. Run in beginner. Select, move a couple mm. Select beginner toggle off. Run again. Bet they match this time.
Post a copy of the original file.
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately it seems not like this is the reason. I created a minimal test project. test_project.lbrn2 (7.5 KB)
It only contains one Letter “I”.
I run this once (beginner OFF), toggle the beginner switch (ON) and move the stainless to a fresh spot (no changes to the project), then run again, then again move the stainless and toggle to OFF, run a third time.
Cool stuff.
If you could change your title to “bug report- Beginner mode: Impact on engraving results” I’ll bet the boys and girls would like to take a look at this.
Thank you very much for the quick confirmation, indeed very good idea to increase the line distance to check what is going on!!!
Unfortunately somehow I cannot edit the Title, the “pen” button is not visible on the initial post?!
You could start a new thead “Bug report…” and link to this thread. Or just use Advanced mode as @Dskall says it’s going away anyway. Advanced also allows for rotating the scan angle, optimization settings, cut selected graphics, etc so better anyway.
As far as I know, the beginner mode removes some options from view. I’d think those are required items and Lightburn places some kind of default value in them.
I’d suggest it gets looked at by @Rick to see if he knows why and maybe can identify it as a bug for the development people.
I just use beginner on my design computer, because it gives me boolean and alighn assistant which I like but I think is a negative for the cam side of things.
