Is there any way to curve text without skewing the letters? I need the letters to keep their original shape when they are bent around an arc.
There is, yes. We explain the details in our documentation. 
Enable or disable the Distort toggle in the Text Options Toolbar to choose whether to distort the text as part of the curve, or leave the individual characters unchanged.
