Best choice for design-only copy?

If someone wants to put LB on a design-only remote computer for use with a laser they don’t own (thus not taking its fully functional LB license and using its second install), what’s the best package option? Should they buy the cheaper GRBL version?

I think this partly depends on how “far” they want to get with the final design. LightBurn attempts to only show you settings that are relevant for the device type that you have configured. What this means in practice is that some fields that would be useful for something like a Ruida based controller are not available if using the G-code version of LB (e.g. Min power).

Using the G-code version would be perfectly adequate for doing the core design and layout work. It would get you probably ~80% there in terms of final configuration, but may not allow you to have burn ready final designs.

OK if they work on it at home on a GRBL copy, take it to the shop with a DSP copy and save it, can the DSP-originated project with markup for the extended Layers params even be opened with GRBL?

If you’re talking about a maker space member, we have special pricing for those - users can purchase a single-seat license for home use for 1/4 the retail price.

Using the GRBL version would mostly work, but there are a bunch of cut settings they wouldn’t have access to, like Min Power, frequency, and a few others.
