Best software? Trying to find which one goes with LightBurn the best

What is the best editing and designing software to use with LightBurn to design your artwork? I am currently using adobe illustrator but Im trying to see if there is one that works with LightBurn better? Looking forward to peoples feedback.

It’s a bit of a personal preference. For example, I use my laser mostly for “technical” products, from boxes to signs or mechanical parts. To design and construct my parts I use LB exclusively. I’ve worked with CAD programs for a few years, but not in connection with my laser work.
For me, it’s the easiest and fastest. If I were to work more with art engraving, photos and the like, there might be other programs that are better suited, I don’t know. And in the end you still come back into LightBurn with the task…

Could you expand on “Works better with lightburn”. I’ve been workin hard for a month+ now trying to improve my Image skills and I’m getting used to the Gimp UI but I’ve got this creepy feeling that more time spent bettering my skills with LB would have been just as rewarding.

Or maybe you mean something else!

I think Lightburn does not care who creates the artwork. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, GIMP, MS Paint, Inkscape, Corel Painter, or the Windows Snippit Tool all do the same thing. They create files with an image format, which Lightburn can import.

Use what you are comfortable with. No need to learn a new application and make your life more difficult.

Any graphics software will work fine to create files.

The bigger issue is understanding how laser files differ from print files. You can create a file with multiple layers that looks beautiful when printed but won’t cut or engrave in any usable way. The engravings will cover the same space several times because the layers overlap.

I do most of my design work in Lightburn because I get real time feedback on how it will look when engraved.
