Hi everyone,
Can anyone confirm if there’s a real difference in black marking on anodized aluminum between a MOPA laser and a standard fiber laser ?
I’m trying to move away from using Cermark with my CO₂ setup.
I have a standard fiber laser and can get a “black” mark on my parts, but it’s pretty light and not a deep black.
If you have any photos of black marks produced with a MOPA laser on anodized aluminum, I’d love to see them.
Thanks in advance!

I’ve done little aluminum, just don’t have much if any laying around to mess with.
Laser Everything has a free library of settings including a dark on aluminum.
You can see, on the right, it’s from aluminum → general → dark in the library. Also it’s for my F254mm lens.
Laser Everything has a short video on dark marking aluminum. I remember seeing it, just couldn’t find it.
Unfortunately they use Brilliance marking spray. About 6:04 in, is a comparison from his fiber with/without … Might be worth check the comparison and see if it’s similar to yours. You might be stuck with one of the coatings…
Good luck

I have 80W MOPA but the darkest you can get with aluminum even with MOPA is dark grey without using a spray of some type like titanium oxide mixture.

I haven’t done much aluminum, but what little I’ve done, a direct black, for me, was never attainable.
