I have a simple problem. Borax and smearing after engraving. How do you solve this problem? Thank you.

It’s more of a general question, because if I etch on borax-coated material and then run my finger or a rag over it, the product smears, like soot…
When I have soot on the engraving or the edges when cutting, I use technical alcohol and cotton cloths.

It is soot because you just burned the wood. You are not converting the borax to black. I skip the borax and just wipe the wood with a microfiber cloth. Others use isopropyl alcohol (sometimes stated as IPA) and a cloth.

Don’t touch it. Blow it off with some air and SPRAY a clearcoat. After several coats you could sand lightly to get roughness off.
