oops my bad i was excited to get it did read that bit. still annoying though.

This is something that your country charges you to import goods from elsewhere, and is not something we have any control over, or can keep track of, as every country will charge differently, and it changes often.

Ive bought from USA numerous times but everything it goes with UPS this charge is applied so its not my country its UPS adding an extra charge i think you may want to change or look into changing delivery service.

If you live in the EU, everything from non-EU countries will be taxed on import. It is simply part of the EU’s trade agreement. The countries have assigned tax collection to the carrier. Some carriers are just a little more “correct” or “dutiful” than others and I think they also earn a fee they charge for their extra work (not the tax itself). I once paid about 10 in import tax and 50 in processing fee!

Most EU countries have a margin under which no duty is charged, because of this reason - the charge outweighs the cost of the goods.

I bought a T-shirt in the UK via UPS and they wanted 45 quid for import. I told them they could keep the US$18 t-shirt.

UPS is one of the companies that always tries to gouge the importer for fees. Better to use USPS. Cheaper, too.

yes, it will probably be the natural reaction to find better opportunities

The duty import taxes are implemented in order to protect local market economies the true problem is that a lot of the time the item being purchased from our side the said country ie EU is not sven made or available in said country at all
It is just another way for the local government to reach into the consumers pocket for profit.

Sad but this is the world we live in now.

Or, looked at another way, imports are treated the same as local sales - i.e. sales tax is applied.

Is your local sales tax equivalent to what they were wanting you to pay them for the Tshirt import ? If so that is crazy big local taxation for you guys.

:beers:

No, they charge you fees and handling - if you bought something worth £1500, their fees are reasonable, but when applied to a £15 shirt…

From memory the duty was about £3, charges brought it to £30-ish

And not my tax, the UK’s.

NZ charges our equivalent of sales tax on everything, regardless of what it is. And the recipient pays the govt. directly

I brought in a laser for $7000, paid $1000 in tax, no fees.

The problem is companies like UPS who are used for small items and gouge the recipient with it fees
