Brilliance Laser Spray on steel with a Galvo laser?

Hey guys… I just got some brilliance laser spray to try with my 50W JPT fiber laser. I wanted to see what type of marks it gives (hopefully nice and black) because in my specific situation I’m engraving knives and with a normal laser engraving the edge heats up too much and damages the temper. So I was hoping the spray would help me get the same mark with not as much heat.

But when I follow the instructions (spray on, allow to dry) and run a material test grid (50khz, .02mm line spacing, 1-2 passes) with power (30-90%) and speed (1000-2000mm/s) the marks don’t look any different than if I skip using the spray.

What am I doing wrong?
