I am wondering if there is any way to bulk convert the .lbrn file format to .lbrn2 instead of loading the files into the program one by one and using the ‘save as’ command? I did search the forum for this and saw where someone had asked before about this and it says there is one reply, but I am unable to see what the reply was/is…Thanks for any guidance!
I am not sure if it is “officially allowed” or better said an akzeptal option, but you can change in the file browser from .lbrn to .lbrn2 without (as I experience it) problems. It will be fine with a feedback from @lightburn.
Well, I can do that and the file will still open in LightBurn, but it doesn’t accomplish what I am trying to do. My goal is to have it so that when I open a folder of LB files, they will show up as thumbnails instead of the LB icon. I can get the files to show up that way if I open them in LB and then ‘save as’ a .lbrn2 file. Just renaming them in the file explorer window does not work for what I am trying to do.
A strange thing is that some (a very few) of my .lbrn files do show the thumbnail, but the vast majority of them do not.
Thumbnail is unrelated to use of .lbrn vs .lbrn2. It’s related to which version of LightBurn was used to save the file. Thumbnails are only available for files created since LightBurn introduced the feature.
So to my way of thinking, by opening a file created in LightBurn;s infancy with a more up to date version and using ‘save as’ to save it as a .lbrn2 file, I am essentially (re)creating it with the more up to date version. Would that make sense to you? If that’s the case, then I’m back to my original question, which is how to bulk convert the files to .lbrn2, if it is even possible.
Can’t you just try it? Maybe with a copy of a Library with lbrn files …?
That approach would work. But note that you wouldn’t need to switch to .lbrn2 to do so. You could open and then save in the existing format.
I’m not aware of any bulk way to do this.
You could potentially script a way of opening the files in bulk but not aware of a way to then save and close the file.
… It has never worked here at my computer with mac os, but it has never been a problem for me either.
I’ve not tried any of these but you might find one that works for you.
Absolutely, Sir, opening in the latest version and simply saving them has provided the sought after thumbnail! I couldn’t really care less if they are .lbrn or .lbrn2, I just wanted the thumbnail to make it easier to recategorize my files. This solution isn’t perfect, but it is a sight better than what I was doing. THANK YOU!!
