Hi!
I am using an OMTech Polar desktop laser with 50W and I am cutting pendants in different designs out of acrylic sheets. I bought pearlescent acrylic sheets in different colors on Etsy (Ideal Materials). The darker ones work great but the lighter colors always get kind of burned on the edges. They look very grey. You can see it in the photos. I tried different speeds and power but nothing seems to work.
Has someone made similar experiences and knows how to solve this?
Thanks!
Chiara
I think something is amiss… The cut edges seem to have an anomaly that is contributing to the color you’re referring.
The cut should be straight and clean… Not sure what to suggest except you settings.
I use scrap to determine the best speed/power for the job. With acrylic I go for the most power I’m comfortable with at whatever speed works best, even if it’s slow.
Only enough pressure to keep the lens clear of debris. So, on my machine, air assist is off.
Good luck
Hi!
Thanks for your reply. I will try again with air assist off, maybe that’s causing the problem. What is scrap? That sounds interesting!
Thanks
What’s left after you cut it out for another project… unlike waste with no monetary value, scrap has monetary value… you can practice cuts and engraving on it…
