Currently using Windows 10 and 11 for Lightburn.
Machine is a new OmTech Polar 350.
On youtube i see a lot of people with an Update Overlay that matches the Lightburn workplace. How do i achieve that?
Running the Calibration for Camera Lens with circles printed out at original size on A4 paper on a cardboard. I have ran this multiple times and not all the time, the camera doesnt pick up the circles in the preview after the Capture. So results come out very warped.
You must get camera calibration and alignment completed for this to work properly. Typically you do this by completing the processes within LightBurn. You could also import a pre-done calibration if available.
Realistically you will need to overcome this for this to work. The single biggest piece of advice I can offer is to attempt to do this away from the laser bed. Mount the calibration pattern to a known flat surface like foam board or plywood. Then open the lid and hold the calibration pattern in front of the camera and repeatedly capture until you get good values at every position. Lighting is critical for this. I’d suggest a bright soft even lighting with no hotspots if possible.
The camera alignment process must be done with the lid closed.
There are many forum Topics covering more of this and I know that I’ve uploaded a pre-done calibration to at least one Topic. A search should bring that up.
Note that the file likely didn’t work because the machines in that Topic are, although related, different variants. It’s more likely that the file could work for you directly since you’re using a OmTech Polar although I’m not familiar with the potential revisions within that machine.
May be worth testing just to see if it gets you directionally toward a better outcome. There’s no harm in it and can just be redone with your custom calibration.
You must burn new targets unless you have a mechanism to reliably reposition a set of targets to the exact location every time. In other words, the specific location of the targets is relevant but is consistent between runs.
Worked this out and got it working! Now my Capture Image shows the workspace properly.
A lot of Youtube videos teach you how to calibrate from within the workspace with the lid (with camera closed), this didnt work for me. Then there were also videos that did it with the lid open, but you face the circles at the camera on the lid.
I managed to calibrate mine by doing the following placements.
