the question is thoe why would LB alter the laser $ Y length in machine setting when doing an update , have done multiple updates and never had this happen before laser bed has been 380 x 850 for over 2 yrs
Hard one to answer. For some (most) it goes smoothly. For others, the .lbprefs file from an earlier date needs to be loaded to restore the userâs settings. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to why it sometimes fails to grab the old preferences file.
Interesting! I got better results the second time by just leaving the April Tags in the center.
The first time, I took lots of captures just like in the video. Maybe it is necessary for a fisheye lens and not a regular lens?
Mike, it must be luck and/or your machine bed is not very big. All lenses have optical distortions, fisheyes are the worst. Typically the center of the lenses will be the point that is less distorted than the outer edges - therefore there is more to calculate and correct in these areas of the program. But - if it works well for you, thatâs great and shows again that theory and practice donât always match ![]()

when i had my piece of junk xtool constant machine and software problems
since ive had my algo minimal issues
Things I noticed in the video posted above:
- You can leave the laser lid open while performing the lens calibration.
- You absolutely should glue the AprilTags card to a flat board. The process measures the distortion of the lens. If the calibration card itself is distorted, that wonât work well.
- Preferrably, you capture multiple images ranging all the way to the edge of the cameraâs view.
for what itâs worth 1Laser had me calibrate with lid open and holding the april tags about 36" away in various positions. 9 takes made it happy. Alignment was a whole different animal.
