Lightburn has a nice feature built-in under Help->Camera Selection to help with camera selection (it could use more refinement, but it’s a nice start).
Below is a screen print of the cameras they are suggesting as possible options. I measured 31" from the focal point to the center of the lid. Would the 8 mp W - 95 be my best option?
Also, are the 8mp W cameras the better quality? And does the W mean wide-angle?
“It could use more refinement, but it’s a nice start” - care to elaborate?
The 8mp-W cameras are wide angle (16:9 aspect ratio) and have a physically larger lens and image sensor, so they have better image quality than the others. The 8mp-N-75 is a slightly better fit for the shape of your laser area, but both the 8mp-W-95 and 8mp-N-75 should work well.
Hi Oz, I sincerely meant it was a nice feature. If there was a field where a user could enter the height, most of the less-than-ideal options would disappear and make the selection process much easier. For myself, I have never used, or for that matter, seen one of these cameras in use (other than in a video), so I don’t know what the difference in selecting one camera over another will do. In the groups I monitor, the question on what camera to order seems to be common. This feature would likely be a great help.
It sounds like you are recommending the 8mp-75-N, correct? It has the same image quality as the W, but with a 4:3 aspect ratio?
Just to confirm, this uses the case for the 5MP (this is what the product page links to) and not the 8MP?
Every camera has a link to the appropriate case for it, and the 8mp-N cameras have they same physical size as the 5mp cameras, and use the same case.
I could have the system allow you to enter a height and then color code the lines to show the ideal choices. This was a relatively quick addition, just to lessen some of our support burden.
Regarding differences, the 8mp-W use larger optics and collect more light, so the image tends to have less noise. The 5mp-60 can be hard to focus if you are too far from the subject, so we don’t recommend that camera for larger machines. Otherwise, the 5mp cameras are good for machines that are 700mm wide or less, and the 8mp’s we recommend for 900mm or larger machines.
Are you asking how long it takes us to put it in the box and give it to USPS? Usually a day. If you’re asking how long it takes USPS after that, I have no idea - they’re a little under duress these days.
Hi Oz, I was curious what your current lead time was to get it to the carrier (your web site says 1-3 days for handling). I already placed the order and went with UPS since they’ll be more reliable and it will get here sooner. Thank you!
