Is there anywhere in any of the settings in LB that allows one to alter the width of the laser beam, or is this a silly question, is it even possible. Be gentle I am fairly new to this, thanks.
I don’t know what a 4240 is, but you state GRBL in your profile so I’m assuming it’s a diode. If that is the case, then no, the beam is the size that it is. That is determined by the optics built into the head.
It can be affected by the focal position, though. It cannot be made smaller, but by going out of focus, you can enlarge the area illuminated by the laser. Note, you will be diffusing the laser beam which will weaken the power.
In addition to what’s already been shared, some laser modules allow for interchangeable lenses. Changes of lenses will also affect the focal dot size, shape, and potentially focal distance. Alternatively, you could experiment with add-on optics that could further change the focus.
However, you indicated that you’re new to this. There’s likely a lot to be discovered before experimenting with the optics becomes worthwhile unless that’s where your specific interest lies. In that case go nuts and be weary of eye protection.
Thanks very much for the information. Great stuff
