Can I dissable the Hot Key to Start a Burn?

There’s been a few occasions when I’ve knocked a key on my keyboard, Spacebar I think or my mouse has been on the second monitor and I started type and my laser started. I’d have to smack the EStop.
I can not find the hot key in my “Edit Hotkeys” list and I can not re assign the the space to something less benign.

Is it possible to remove the hotkey start function which in my case has been somewhat dangerous.

You may want to review this setting, found under the ‘Gears’ icon at the top.

The space bar isn’t the hotkey that triggers a job, however the last button pressed will have the keyboard focus, and if you press the space bar, it will re-trigger that button. This is a Windows thing, not LightBurn itself.

Yes. I should have made that distinction as well. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Thanks, yeah, that’s been on since day 1, my problem happens when the monitor is on, i.e. I move my mouse to the second monitor to un pause youtube, hit the space, forgetting that light burn is still the active windows and off it goes! Realistically if the monitor is asleep Im not present to knock the space bar, and I dont have car that walks around on tables. And hitting the space bar wakes up the monitor anyhow. So now theres a millisecond race to see if the monitor wakes before light burn checks to see if the monitor is asleep. It happened again last night, I remove my freshly cut product, push the keyboard out of the way to make room and my safety glasses in my left hand hit the space. This time it crashed into waste product still siting on the bed before I hit the Estop.
At this stage I just have to hit the estop at the end of every job then rehome before every job.
It would be nice if that soft switch in LB just disabled the all operation the laser from the space bar rather than when monitor is off. Does anybody actual start the jobs from the space bar. I know I always frame then preview then click start with my mouse. Ive never intentionally use the space bar to start a job.

I’ve removed the ability to do it in the past, by making the “Start” button not accept keyboard, and had users complain, so yes, people do it. Typically for repeated jobs.

Rather than using the space bar, tap the Ctrl or Shift keys - they’re modifiers and have no action of their own, but they’ll wake up the screen.

Thank you, I guess its only a problem in my use case having two monitors and using the second for web browsing, discord, watching videos etc. This only happens when I’m present and the monitor is awake. The race condition I referred to was just a thought, I’m a windows dev and its natural for me to think ahead and consider events like this.

It happened again yesterday. I had a video playing on the second screen and had been editing a job. My phone rang and I instantly hit the space to pause my video but lightburn was still the active window so the job started and I wasn’t ready. I was preparing a job for marking stainless steel and when I reached over to hit the estop while answering the phone I got a reflection in my right eye. I now have a weird black squiggle in my vision at about the 2 O’Clock position. Its a little distracting being off to the peripheral bit, I’m sure it will heal over time.

It would just be nice to have the option as a soft switch. I’m a windows dev by day and I understand the hesitation to implement even the simplest operation as it can sometime break the most random functions else where. The time spent looking for potential interactions with any new function is expensive. I understand that. I’m sure you could leave the space bar as it is now by default for those who like the feature.if ever implemented. Lightburn is a great product and very affordable, its not deal breaker for me. I’ll continue to use and support you.
Cheers,
