You probably can with some type of coating that the laser can bind to the aluminum. I use LBT100 quite a bit for metals with the co2, it also works on aluminum… Cermark and Enduramark they seem to be similar.
Problem with aluminum is that it reflects ~96% of the energy that strikes it from a laser. I ruined one lens on my co2 doing stainless… wasn’t worth it…
This is LBT100 on both of these… mug is stainless, the cat is on 6x6" porcelain tile.

Not my personal laser, so I am going to not do this.
These coatings are for co2 lasers. They are used everywhere… It’s a non-toxic (don’t breath) coating that washes off with water…
It would be safer on the machine than directly attempting to mark aluminum…
