I have read enough BS on the S30 pro laser Module to hurt my old brain…
I have the Sculpfun @9 laser and am having a lot of trouble with the cutting side It used to cut 3mm in 2 passes with 500mm/min at 90% power then over night it takes 10 passes…
An exert from Sculpfun web site" *Highly compatible design: SCULPFUN laser module has an ingenious and highly compatible sstructural connection device, which can be well adapted to different laser engraving machines, laser cutting machines, 3D printers, CNC milling machines, etc. It can be installed on various brands of machines, such as SCULPFUN S9/S6pro/S6, ATOMSTACK A5/A5Pro, ORTUR (12V version) laser engraving machine, or other DIY type machines can be used."…
Does this mean I don’t need any other board to run this S30 pro on my S9 laser…
Thanks to all tat take the time to answer…Cheers Merlin…
Generally speaking, the laser module can be used with any control board on any type of machine.
The laser module, again generally, has three connection. A ground, power and a ttl pwm control signal
The only thing that most control boards can’t handle is the power (required current) to the new module.
The actual control signal, pwm, will be ok for any of these. How much current the new module draws to operate may require the addition of a new power line to the module.
There doesn’t seem much easily found information on what the control board can supply and what the S30 requires… I didn’t look hard, so to speak.
Does this make sense?
I did something similar with a < $80 US 500mW engraver. I put a NEJE 40630 laser module on it. It connects to the original control board, but has to have an external supply for it’s own power needs. The copper traces on the motherboard are not thick enough to carry the required current. The module wasn’t really designed for this, so I have to build a mounting bracket…
Most of these have only three pins, mine has four. A temperature pin, they tell you to ignore.
Before and after… works great…
Thanks Melvin…I have been looking at S10 modules funny though they are dearer than the S30… Go figure…Merlin…
You can use nearly any 12V laser module on the S9. Though, an upgrade to S30 makes sense, since it includes a great air assist and linear rail for the x-axis. If you want to go for a single 10W module, the S10 is equal to the S30 Pro and probably cheaper.
