Cannot clip design to template

Hi Everyone,

I purchased a fancy scroll design on Etsy. It is an SVG file and I am trying to fit it to a template I made for a 6 inch chef’s knife blade which is carbon steel. I have a new fiber laser and have pretty much dialed in the parameters on scrap steel. I cannot for the life of me clip it to the template so that it fits pretty much from edge to edge. The boolean assist is gray when ever I try to use it. The template is all one piece and grouped together and I have also grouped the scroll file together. So I thing I only have two items but it is acting more like more than two items. I also tried mask to image. I am beginning to think there is something going on with the file. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. On a new Mac and have the Lightburn version just before the last upgrade.

Are you sure it is SVG file?

Select all (Ctrl+A) do a duplicate of your shapes (Alt+D) movbe aside and then Break Apart (Alt+B) and check for duplicates (Alt+D).

Hi Dskall,

I downloaded the version that was named svg.svg. How do I know for sure it is an SVG file?

Jim

Hi parsec,

Every time I check for duplicates it comes back no duplicates found. I am pretty sure there are no duplicates.

Jim

Did you Break Apart first?

I promise you this is not always true. First it to be a duplicate. It must be both the same length and have the same exact coordinates. Off by 0.001 mm and it will fail the check.

Hi Mike,

I see your point and I agree. I had 2882 open paths in the design I purchased. I wound up breaking all apart and redoing it. Sometimes it is just not worth buying files.
