Cannot connect my Swift 7w to Lightburn 2.0.0.5

Hi fiolks,

I’m and IT technician running Windows 11 ENT. I have installed the CH341SER drivers, I have confirmed my laser is recognized by Widows in device manager, and verified the COM port.

My laser is plugged in via USB. The laser is easily recognized in the AtomStack Studio software, but regardless of how many times I add a GRBL device rocking out at 115,200 baud, Lightburn will not recognize it. Lightburn can recognize and see my AC1 Pro camera, but not the laser.

Help?

We need to understand what “not recognize” means.

My apologies.

I start Lightburn, it asks me to configure a device. I choose Find my Laser, and it finds nothing.

I try a manual add (as I have read in some places) it as a GRBL device, and it does not find it.

I add and try to engrave a simple circle for a test. It doesn’t respond to the Frame button when I click it.

When I click the Console tab, it is sending Go, but not receiving any response.

after that with laser connected to USB and turned ON select the correct COM port.

I wasn’t aware there was another driver available, looking forward to trying the CH34x.

I’m sorry to report that the new profile didn’t work.

I dragged it into LB, and it appeared in the Laser window as a profile. I noticed the baud rate was different than the recommended 115,200 and it was set to Buffered and not Synchronous. I left it that way and it couldn’t connect.

I then changed the baud rate to 115.200 and to Synchronous, but it still didn’t work. I also got the CH34x install from the link in the documentation, and it didn’t seem to make any difference.

I really appreciate the attempt.

I would entertain any and all suggestions.

Try Baud-Rate 115200 but keep Transfer Mode Buffered. You can also try enabling DTR, but do only one change at a time then reset connection (right-click Devices button) after each change to test.

Confirm your using the edited device:

In Console Window right-click and select Clear Console, enable Show all then right-click Devices button to reset connection.

After select correct COM port and copy/paste here all the content of the Console Window.

I tried all the variations of DTS on, Buffered on, DTS off, synch to buffered on, DTS on, synch on, DTS off, synch to buffered off. Results below.

I performed the right-click on the Devices between each change, as you requested.

I can confirm it was using the proper COM port for every attempt.

I looked through the post you suggested, and I can confirm the Atomstack Studio works perfectly, which would eliminate the cable or COM settings as an issue, I think.

I also tried using different USB ports on the laptop, to no avail.

I’m going to install LB on a different laptop and try the connection. Maybe it’s this Surface laptop I’m using.

Installed LB on a full size Dell laptop Windows 11ENT and I get the exact same result.

I installed the CH34x drivers, and performed all the same tests with the lbdev file you sent.

Any other suggestions? At this point I would repave my laptop with a different OS if you asked me.

Go through these…

  1. Does Windows make the typical ding when you connect and disconnect the USB cable?
  2. With Windows Device Manager open, plug in the USB cable (laser on of course). Does a Ports line appear when you connect the USB cable?
  3. Does the Ports have a USB line with CH340 (or similar) in it?

Please answer all three…

  1. Yes, it makes the typical Windows beep when a peripheral is added or removed.

I am sure I am not the only one scratching their head over this. It appears you have checked all the boxes, but we are obviously missing something.

Have you tested with the tool @parsec suggested? What was the result?

Have you tried a Baud rate higher than 115,200?

Can you also test with LaserGrbl?
EDIT: The manual says to connect with 460800 bps.

I used the online tool (very cool) and here are my results:

Please check that all other software is disconnected from your machine, including instances of this software in other browser tabs, then try again. If the problem continues after everything else is closed, unplug and reconnect the USB cable and try again.

Installed LaserGRBL.

I adjusted the baud rate to 460,800 and it wouldn’t connect. Nor would it connect at 115,200. I confirmed my laser was on COM4 in device manager.


I did click the Help button, but it mostly covered things I know I have right; COM port, check USB cable, etc.

I couldn’t find a console button, I assumed it was the large field just below where it says Progress.

Is there a log I can pull or something, or is that necessary?

Try a different USB cable. Use a quality shielded one with a ferrite (knot) on it if you have one.

Also try using a different USB connector on the PC. Unfortunately you only have one USB connector on the laser, right?

I purchased a new USB cable yesterday as a test, although the included MFGR cable works perfectly in AtomStack Studio.
