HI all. I updated Lightburn last week and since I have not been able to engrave straight lines. I have tried several projects with straight lines. … jpgs, svgs etc. They all prodoct the same results. They look pixelated and sometimes has curves in them. This only happens when I use fill. When I switch to line, it seems to do fine. Using a Thunder Nova.
Any ideas how to fix this or what the problem may be?
Yes. If you could try to make it match as closely as possible how you did the initial burn that would be ideal. Want to make sure we’re dealing with apples-to-apples.
I want to make sure we’re talking about the same artifacts. I interpret the problem to be the stair-stepping of the nearly horizontal lines, is that correct?
If so, your results seem to match closely to the Preview. If so, this seems normal to me from the perspective that the stair-stepping is the result of limited horizontal resolution. You could potentially try to alleviate this by decreasing line interval size but that might result in overburn.
Here I’ve tried overlaying the Preview on top of the actual burn and you can see that the steps are represented in the Preview:
When you say this started happening after the update, are you running like for like designs and comparing those results between old and new versions? Or did you perhaps not have near horizontal lines like this?
If this is a problem I’d suggest experimenting with line interval and possible different scan angles although Ruida controls only properly scan horizontally and vertically. Crosshatching could possibly reduce the appearance of the stair steps as well.
Yes, I think it is what you are calling stair stepping. But it does not seem normal to me as I have run similar with better results. I will try to run past projects and compare.
I know when I did the update, it reset and I had to got back and re enter things, so I am hoping my problem is there is something I need to reenter.
What types of things did you need to setup after update?
In any case I’d suggest running an interval test to optimize your line spacing. That might reveal some things in what’s going on.
One other thing to check for. If you previously had a scanning offset adjustment set but no longer do, you may be getting exaggerated stair steps.
Try this:
create a 50x50 mm filled square
set your line interval to something like 1mm with bi-directional scanning
run the job
check that the scan lines line up at left and right. If not, you may have backlash in your system or may just need to apply a scanning offset adjustment.
Just an FYI, LightBurn saves copies of all of your configurations, so you can reload the config from LightBurn prior to the update when you lost your config. If you go to File/Load Prefs Backup, you will see a long list of backup configurations. Pick one from before you did the upgrade and click load. This will restore your settings in LightBurn back to that point and time.
