I want to etch lots of these

…yes but dear Lucie, why is that, aren’t you sure what’s inside?

That looks like a rock (at least I hope it is!). I got a new iCube for Christmas at my son’s house. I wanted to do something that would not campfire the house, so I bought some river rocks. Posted some results and was stunned by the interest in this “new” hobby.

LOTS of great info here…

…I hope it’s a walnut, or do I have to get new glasses again :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Frankly, it seems rather obviously to be a desk nut, as to be a wall nut it would need some type of hanging apparatus, would it not?

In other news, now I want to make a whole series of engraved nouns. Nut, rock, shell, coaster,…

You can also cut the nut.

You can try a stencil font next time, A,O,D…etc. will look even better. But it’s a nice job anyway.

It is, indeed, a walnut. Goggled what I could do with the walnut once etched. You could stash a trinket, a $ bill inside, a party favor with winners number inside. So much fun!

I concede, that it is. Can you buy them already cleaned out? If not, that would seriously inflate the labor charges.

FTFY.

It appears that a lasered cut, being the width and thickness of a large handled flat head screwdriver or strong butter knife could be made to the assumed depth of the shell and after inserting the tool “while using goggles, gloves or towel incase of shrapnel” a firm but gentle twisting action may be applied, thereby seperating the two half shells at the seam.

Or you could put a knife edge in the seam and whack it with a hammer.

Careful, you might bust it…
