this is what i was trying to weld but it would not allow
i even watched various utubes on it it would not even allow me to edit pionts
this is what i was trying to weld but it would not allow
All shapes have to be closed. Might need to convert it to a path.
I’d suggest you use one of the applicable boolean functions, in all likelihood a union.
After both are selected, use ^B to bring up the boolean options and you can see how they operate on your selections.
If you have problems, post the art work here (.lbrn2) so we can examine it…
Good luck
80 rose.lbrn2 (297.1 KB)
this is the file i even made sure that it was closed i woulnd care i welded the 8 the zero and the tabs and the polygons and the th but it would not let me weld union the background of the rose.

There have been quite a few duplicates and unclosed shapes. I have removed the problems and made 2 variants.
Give a man a fish to eat, he’ll be fed for the day… Teach him to fish and he can feed himself…
I think a few minutes on what you did to fix it would be beneficial to @mickrobi1971 for the next time he had issues… did weld work or did you use one of the boolean functions.
If it was just open shapes …
Is that a new version as i dont have those function i have long bounght it.
As you yourself recommended, I also use this function quite often and welding is also part of the boolean operations
…another good reason to renew your license
But the function itself was not the problem, your shapes were/are not closed and there are/were 150 or similar duplicates. If you close the rose and delete all duplicates, you can also use the 4 boolean functions on the left side of your tool’s menu. There are no new functions in the assistant, it just makes it much more visible what is going on.
Hi Bernd Thanks for what you have said I have tried to do what you have said but i cant seem to close my shape what am i doing wrong as when i import the shape you sent me i can weld that but not the one i have what am i doing wrong

Hi Michael, good to have you back. It was a bit late for me last night, but I still wanted to quickly give you a hand, hence the perhaps somewhat “concise” description.
Let’s start with the new file you sent today.
One of the most important shortcuts, in my opinion, is “alt+cmd+o” - (o as open), I always use it.
As another part of the workflow, I always check for duplicates. Duplicates can be very annoying because you usually don’t notice or see them until you run into problems.
“80” is ok, no duplicates left and no open shapes here - fine.
Your rose, on the other hand, consists (in this file from today) of many “loose” segments.
The first step (in my workflow, after the 2 basic functions) is that I simplify the shape. I do this to make it easier to “debug” and because fewer nodes require less work - see.image
Then comes “alt+B” and “alt+J”, I break the whole shape into pieces and then reassemble it (… honestly, LightBurn does it for me )
Now I test again with “alt+cmd+o” - and the shape is still not closed.
From here it’s manual work, zoom in - a lot and find out what’s going on.
Just in the small piece that is in picture no. 2, there are the first 4 breaks of the shape, in total there are many, many. Actually, there was only a single break in the first file yesterday, so you must have worked this rose.
Try zooming all the way in, you’ll be surprised. A good indicator is all the green dots…There must be only one. When the fragments are too “complicated” or the nodes are too far apart, the automatic assembly does not work optimally or not at all, therefore I assemble the fragments manually. One green dot at a time until everything fits together correctly and there is only a single green dot left.
I hope I could help understand (my) workflow.
hi Bernd thanks for your help. Its funny just has you sent this message i decided to go back to the original file were i got this rose from it is part of a larger rose so i broke it apart then i deleted the parts that I didn’t want which was under two leaves and then i drew a line to complete or join the ends then selected it all and did the auto join and it closed it. Thanks again you have helped a lot.
