Carbon Filter - Acrylic Smell

Hi all,

I have a Trotec duo plus extraction system, purchased second hand. I’ve just turned it on and noticed a an acrylic smell - no problem as I need to change the filters out which are in the workshop.

Question is health related - is the smell I can smell, toxic? Even after a year of sitting in my shop? I’m assuming as the fumes have dissipated the smell should now be benign - wanted to check…

Si.

Did you ask yourself how the smell is getting to you. You cannot be overly cautious.

The filter is probably working pretty much as intended, with a bunch of fumes adsorbed on its surface that are now slowly outgassing. Letting it sit for a year doesn’t make that gunk magically disappear.

Not everything that smells is toxic and many things you can’t smell are (eventually) fatal, so replacing the filter elements seems prudent.
