Card holder - gift box

We all know that, monetary gifts are very practical but not so easy to hand over to the lucky person. I have used this little “Card holder” as a money hider a few times and the people have always been happy with this gift.
There is room for 5 normal credit/debit cards if people want to use the box for that later.
Sometimes I engrave something as a decoration on the box, but polished plywood also looks beautiful without it.
Except for the locking piece in the middle and the rivets, which are 4mm thick, everything else is made in 3mm.
You have to experiment a bit with kerf setting and direction of the laminate for the snap locks. The plywood must be oriented so that the 2 outermost layers have the same direction as the snap lock, or they will break.
For finger joints I use “boxes.py” which with its lbrn2 filexsport option is ideal for the task. The only critical point is to find the right power setting for the part of the locking mechanism that needs to be removed from the 2 side parts, but 2-3 test pieces and it should be ok.

In the second last picture, it is a different snap lock design, but only optical.

There has been time to play with 3mm plywood, so there is a new/different version of the card holder.
This one has a magnetic snap lock and it makes a lovely “click” when it closes. Everything is press fit (0.075 kerf) however I give the assemblies a drop of superglue. As pivot shaft I used a Ø3.5 mm beech wood round stick.
Finally, a bit of leather balm, strangely enough it suits this project a bit better as beeswax.
