Is there anyway to change the thickness of the fonts? Most fonts don’t even laser the centers of letters and numbers. I cant get my laser to etch letters A, B or numbers like “4”. I have tried several different fonts and t
You can use Offset Shapes in the left toolbar. You will need to change the as typed font words into paths first; Edit>Convert to Path.
Then you can use Offset Shapes. You will need to experiment with each font and material to find out how to either do an Offset Shape outward or Offset Shape outward.
In the case of the insides of letters like: “e, o, p, q, b” you may want to offset outward the outer part of the letters, then inward offset the insides.
I thought it shows what it’s sending to the laser, operational and lasing…
What do you see in the preview that is different?
Most of the time you want something, usually referred to as a single stroke font… even though many of these turn out to be double stroke… usually programmed for milling machine types.
These are just tool paths… so it’s the thickness of your lasers kerf…
I have a k40 and upgraded the board to a monport motherboard to use lightburn but after the upgrade I cant achieve the small letters that I was able to make with the old board and software.
here is an example of the small lettering I was able to achieve before the upgrade. If I attempt to try that now, it will not laser off the inside of the letters or numbers.
In the preview it show that the inside of the letters are filled but it seems like it completely ignores the inside of the letter.
It does work for me. The amount you try to offset has its limitations with small type. I also see that you might be trying to make rubber stamps. The ramp you apply to the letters and the internal openings can conflict to the point any stamped image will fill in. So, font choice is important, and so is the ramp setting.
I have done a sequence of offset shapes on the letter B to show what can happen, and how you may be able to keep the centers of “holes” intact. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes.
I was messing around with the machine settings trying to get a higher speed because it seems as it is limited and did a test run with the exact same project and same font and ended up with fantastic results.
This was result without changing the font or adding an offset. I have no idea what setting I changed but it seemed to have worked. It got rid of the thickness that I was having trouble with.
