I have an omtech 60w with a cw5200 chiller. I keep getting the E2 alarm for overheating. Laser is only running at 40 percent currently in a cool room. Here is what my screen shows for the temperature.
Sounds like the refrigeration part of the chiller has failed… E2 means coolant too warm, E1 ambient temperature too warm…
Can you measure the current draw?
If you can get your hand inside, you should be able to feel the compressor running.
The compressor is what failed on mine. Same symptoms. Maybe one of these will help…
5200 series maintenance manual.
Good luck…
Everything is running. The compressor is hotter than hell.
Good that’s it’s running, but it doesn’t sound like it’s cooling.
Assume you’ve ensured it full of coolant… Don’t really know what else to advise.
Can you see any damage that may have let any of the refrigerant escape?
I found that when they break, it costs at least 40% of the cost to just have it looked at. Mine arrived DOA so I tried to get it fixed locally. The vendor told me if I could get it fixed for $150 they would refund that amount.
No one wanted to touch it, without paying $100 to just come to the house. And most didn’t have a brick and mortar shop to even take it. Finally took it to a friend in the business and he works with shops that have similar types of chillers. He fixed it and sold it to to one of his clients.
If you can find an A/C guy that supports the industry maybe they can fix it.
Good luck
The cooling line that goes into the tank isn’t getting cold at all. I contacted them to see about getting a replacement chiller shipped as this one is only ten weeks old and hasn’t been used much.
Hold them to it…
They keep delaying with me and I finally gave them $100 bucks and they replaced it. I did recover that from the friend who sold it, but should have never had to deal with that.
Felt like an idiot for letting them talk me into paying more for their problem. The big issue is that of returning it. Without the box, it’s tough to get packed up and shipped.
There should be a blast or at least a flow of warm air from the radiator. If your fan is not running, the compressor will get hot but there is no cooling taking place. The heat has to go somewhere.
I’m sure this is an obvious point but what target temperature do you have the unit set at?
I have this same unit set to 19 and the compressor kicks in about a minute after I turn the unit on.
It’s on whatever setting it came set at. I haven’t messed with the settings at all.
So, how do you know at what temperature it is set to kick on and start cooling? Additionally, it sounds like you still have it set to the default relative temperature mode versus changing it to the absolute mode (may not be the exact term) that targets and tries to maintain a specific temperature.
Here are my notes on setting temp on CW5200:
- press and hold (arrow up) and set button for 5 seconds. It responds with “0” display
- press arrow up button until 08
- press set and it responds with “F0”
- press set
- press arrow up or down to 19. Or what ever you need it to run at.
- press RST.
My unit always runs colder then set temp by about 1 degree. Good luck.
That may be the issue…
The default was ‘intelligent mode’, on my chiller.
I had to change mine to “Constant Temperature mode” for it to operate properly. It’s in the users guide.
Might want to try to set it to constant temperature mode and see if that helps… @dean448 advice for F0 may not be of much use if it’s in the wrong mode. The factory default on mine was 25 deg C.
Good luck…
The setup …
I’ve tried changing the settings as suggested. Alarm still goes off. I contacted them and was given the we will refund you 100$ to fix it line. I told them I wanted a replacement unit. Waiting to hear back.
Good I fell for that, you paid for it, they can’t add $100 for their problem
Take care.
