I am trying to edit nodes and although I have been working with computer since 1990, I do not know what the symbol in this picture is, and how to reproduce it.( it looks like a box with circles at each corner
Mac version of ctrl.
As Mike writes, when a shortcut is written in this way, it is for both Windows and Mac users. You will also run into another sign, similar to a switch symbol for trams is on our Mac keyboard, along with “alt”
I’ve always worked with Windows based PC’s, so I have no experience with Mac. Now it all makes sense!
Thanks all!
When I’m in edit node mode with PC, just hit letter no control key, in fact, control key makes it not work.
Good grief!!! You just solved a problem I was going to report. I just thought I was not following instructions right. I did not think to try it without the control key.
While in Node Edit mode CRTL-I pops up the Lightburn IMPORT window, @LightBurn …
I think that’s from a mis-reading of the tooltip. Ctrl/Command + ` (backtick) is the shortcut to switch to Edit Nodes tool. The other keys are consistently available while using that tool. They’re not shortcuts/hotkeys in that sense.
100% correct. Backtick, not to be confused with single quote mark. It took me a while when I first started node editing in LB, it is not that obvious.
This shortcut cannot work with an azerty keyboard (French), where the backtick is obtained via AltGr key (and it is a “dead key”, ie. it waits for another letter, like a: à , or space to get it directly).
That’s why lot of softwares allow to remap the keyboard shortcuts…
Thank you. Still having trouble adding a node in Windows Lightburn.
Thank you Albroswift
It is confusing, yes?
Not having Mac experience was the contributing cause of my problem.
It was ok to bring it up, I’m sure you’re not the only one who has wondered about it
Nope, not here. CTRL = ` (open single apostrophe) selects the Edit Nodes icon, but does not enable CTRL+? for node editing.
Just had a brain flash… Do you mean enabling the Edit Nodes icon does not require further use of the CTRL key (it is modal)?
This is correct. It switches to Edit Nodes tool. Once that tool is selected, the other key commands are available for editing.
I see where the confusion came in. When I hover over the Node Edit icon, I see Edit Nodes (CRTL = ) without the accent mark. It is there if I get up close. I was seeing it as control plus one of the keys below.
You have no idea how happy this makes me to get that cleared up. Thanks!
I thought the tic was a piece of dirt on my screen!
Which means it’s also time to turn your keyboard upside down and whack it on the desk to dislodge the board chow …
