CO2 laser on Black Tile

Hi
Can anybody tell me if you can engrave on black ceramic tiles or on Granite with a 80w Co2 laser, and what is the steps.
i also have a Atomstack 20w diode laser, any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

The simple answer is yes, however why would you want to?

Much like white tiles, co2 shatters the porcelain glass on the surface. Lasing alone on a white (and probably black) tile, I doubt it would be visible enough. Same holds true with granite, it will damage the surface but I don’t know that it will mark it in a way that is easily seen by someone.

There are many types of slate that engrave well. ?

There is also a difference between engraving a marking. Most user type objects are handled by people. If it’s engraved the engraved area will collect dust dirt and other unpleasant items that can be difficult to remove.

I always suggest you test out your theories since you have the equipment… it’s always educational.

Might want to look at NTM (Norton tile method) on this site and others. They use white tile and TiO2 fuse it to the tile with a laser…

This is the fiber laser on lava rock… turned to glass…

I’m not clear on what you’re trying to do, which would help.
