This morning this issue greeted me as I tried to burn part three of a three part sign project. Yesterday it all worked fine.
Today - the laser head started “beating itself” against the “home” position - chattering, stuttering, and generally non-resonsive. I turned the machine on and off a couple of times, closed out of Lightburn and reopened it. Nothing was working, so i did a searh and ended up here. I found lots of advice, none of it was helpful to me. As per the SOP here, comments are closed after 30 days so if the solution is not helpful and you still need help you are SOL. Hence this post.
What I did
First I tried a few things through LB - I pointed the position icon to somewhere NOT “home”. I tried the “move” tab, entering in coordinates and such. Nothing was making any difference. The laser head was determined to punish itself in the home corner.
Turning the machine off, I then looked at the machine up close and personal. The limit switch - a small sliver of spring steel was not making it where it needed to be. I proved this by manually closing the switch with a flat-head screwdriver. [note here, as an A+ certified computer tech with over 30 years experience, I was able to quell my fears about resorting to such drastic measures - I do not recommended trying this at home.]
In the end, it seemed apparent that the belt driving the head to this side (y-axis, I suppose) wasn’t working. I’d tried adjusting belt tensions previously but to no avail.
Once again, I adjusted this belt. This time, I paid close attention to how the belt snugged (sorry for the highly technical terminology here) againsed the wheel.
It worked, No more issues.
Hope this helps.
