After spending many hours and days trying to get my vintage CNC to play nice with MillMage I decided to do the signs I had been contracted to do with my OMTECH CO2 60/50W laser.
Larger than my laser bed requiring the signs to be done with Pass through. A lot of hard mental work for an old man to get everything set up along with a bout with NoroVirus that shut us down for a number of weeks.
I am including a photo of one of the signs with personal names blanked out. Folks did not wish to have their names advertised.
I engraved with two passes into 1 1/2" solid Poplar material measuring 23 1/2" in height X 45" long. They are primed with three coats of white primer, three coats of dark finish, three coats of gold on the cutouts, plus three coats of waterproof clear coat. Many hours/days of allowing each application to dry properly. The graphic is 3/8" x 7 1/4" x 14" poplar engraved then artistically painted by my artistic wife. Since the folks the signs are for won’t be home until last of March we will have them hung in our wood shop.
A special thanks to Tim Helmuth for his unending help with this venture.
