Communication error?

I have a Ray 5 10W. After working fine, I came back to use the laser. Upon starting lightburn and turning on the laser, the touch screen on the Ray5 goes white. I have tried removing and adding the device multiple times and changing out the cables, along with trying different com ports. The console tab will say waiting for connection or ˥ͥ 0, SPIWP:0xee
clk_drv:0x00,q_drv:0x00,d_drv:0x00,cs0_drv:0x00,hd_drv:0x00,wp_drv:0x00.

The laser will work fine in other software programs, and the touch screen works fine until connected to lightburn.

Waiting for connection is caused by a USB issue, likely the cable.
˥ͥ is a communication sync issue, also possibly the cable. This is what is sometimes seen when the controller is beginning communication with the PC, and Lightburn. If you do not see an “OK” at the end of the Console window listing, that means communication failed. Again consider the cable.

USB Cable: Buy a quality cable that is shielded and has one or more ferrites on it. Also limit it to about 10 feet max.

This might also show that the firmware is corrupt and cannot boot. Try flashing the firmware again.

i have tried 3 cables total, the included one which worked fine less than an hour before the issue, along with 2 other known good cables that i use for work.

hmmm, tried a fourth cable, and each one gives a “failed to connect to esp32: no serial data received” when trying to reflash the firmware. does this still sound like a cable issue? all the cables ive used are ones I have on my work van for testing equipment. While they work for that, i am wondering if i should buy a brand new one to try since i got the failure to connect error when trying to update firmware.

I would start looking at a bad PC USB port, corrupt CH340 driver, or bad USB on the controller board.

Does it ding when you connect the laser? Does it ding when you plug in a thumb (USB stick) drive?

Try reinstalling the CH340 driver. Sometimes a Window update will mess with it.

Then move to the laser. Do you have another PC you can test it with?
