Confused After Origin Change - Upside Down & Backwards Printing

Hello Everyone,

  • First, I did conduct a search here and did not find an answer that solved my issue (wanted to make sure you knew that). :grinning:
  • After switching from upper right origin to lower left origin in Device Settings, text is upside down and backwards and the Job Origin is not where I select it to be.
  • Using Lightburn 1.4.01 on a Mac Studio 2022 M1 Max with Ventura 13.4.1. Laser is an extended xTool D1 Pro 20W Blue laser.
  • When I had the standard size D1 Pro, I used the top left as the origin; however, when I went to the extended D1 Pro, I wanted to switch the origin to the lower left. Before this, everything worked perfectly. Now, to have the job start at the lower right (so I can more easily see the laser light during setup) using Start From Current Position, I have to select the upper right in Job Origin. But then, that causes text to print upside down and backwards.
  • I also get an ā€œOut of Boundsā€ message every time I try to print. My workspace is set to 300mm x 300mm and I stay within that boundary during these tests.
  • The attached photo shows tests I performed. The Job Origin is listed for each of the four examples (Lower Right, Lower Left, Upper Left, Upper Right). Current Position for each test is where the black Sharpie dot is. The Device Origin is the Lower Left (zero, zero). I turned the photo upside down so you can read it more easily, but it printed upside down, as well as reversed.
  • I know I am missing something obvious and Iā€™ll be knocking myself upside my head when it is pointed out, but could someone please help me figure this out?
    Thanks.
    Take Care,
    Jim

2 things:

  1. Origin is not an arbitrary choice that you can easily change. Machines are typically designed for a particular origin in mind and cannot be easily changed.
  2. The xTool machine specifically have no practical way of changing the origin even if desired. Stick to top-left.

If youā€™re highly motivated a board swap or possibly a 3rd party firmware swap might provide the freedom to change things around.

Hi berainlb,

Thank you for your response. The more I researched, the more I was coming to that conclusion. I thought it was an easy thing to do so I could use Absolute Positions with the zero/zero at the bottom left, closest to my access point (it is now over three feet long with the extension), and matching my sacrificial board matrix. Luckily, I didnā€™t burn my sacrificial board yet with the bottom left as Origin.
Iā€™m glad at least it wasnā€™t some dumb little thing I should have easily figured out. Iā€™lll go back to the upper left corner. Thank you, again.

Take care,
Jim

Itā€™s one of those things that most non-xTool devices would allow you to customize with some effort. xTool unfortunately make it practically impossible.
