Console says this

Thought Id better ask if anyone can explain what the console is telling me.

The laser stopped after completing the test grid, so I Homed it with no problem and I ran the test grid again. It stopped almost immediately and the console reported…

Without knowing which machine you have, it’s hard to be more specific than saying the message points out a problem in the GRBL homing configuration:

In particular, the $27 value should be larger than whatever it is now. Typical mechanical switches need about 3 to 5 mm of pulloff, so if $27 is less than 5, make it so.

You can change that in the LightBurn Console or through the Edit → Machine Settings window.

Increasing the pulloff decreases the maximum travel along both axes, so reduce $130 and $131 by 5 mm. That will prevent the controller from trying to go beyond the physical limits of the axes.

Beg your pardon Ed.

Snapmaker ray 20w

“Snapmaker” introduces another level of weirdness, so some previous discussions may be of use:

https://forum.lightburnsoftware.com/search?q=%22snapmaker%20ray%22%20homing

In particular:

Fixing the homing / pulloff error detected by the machine controller should improve the situation, because LightBurn is just reporting what the controller tells it: homing happens entirely in the machine.

I cleared the console and typed in the new coordinates but no change in behavior:-

To reiterate:

Fixing the homing / pulloff error detected by the machine controller should improve the situation, because LightBurn is just reporting what the controller tells it: homing happens entirely in the machine.

Until you fix that, nothing else will change, because the machine is not homing correctly.

Thanks Ed
I managed to run a 40min job after a couple of pauses and once it was underway it kept going until finish.
I actually think the sunlight coming in a window was causing alarms etc which added to the confusion and after blocking that it was ok.
Still need to fix the coordinates as I see negatives on the top line of the grid and the acceleration (suspect thats the cause of juddering)…will study that this evening and have another go at it tomorrow.

Thanks for your help…as always!

Does Snapmaker have optical home switches?

Apparently not.
