Constant "busy" status, device located but no communication

I have an Ortur Laser Master 2 with GRBL connected via USB but cannot get anything to move. My laser appears as connected but I receive this when I try to run anything followed by ‘busy’ until I reset. I have tried to start at different coordinates, resetting everything and looked at a number of similar threads but don’t know what the issue is. Going to try on a windows computer but want to figure this out before the trial period ends.

ALARM:2 is you trying to send the laser out of bounds. This means you’re likely using “User Origin” or “Current Position” mode instead of “Absolute Coords”, and not understanding what those are.
